17 Inch Jazz Bass Guitar, front view
Here's the newest member of the art deco guitar family, the 17 Inch Jazz Bass Guitar.
The 17 Bass features a 17" cutaway body, 3 inches deep, art deco styling, custom pickup made by Kent Armstrong to Price specifications,
Pennsylvania flamed maple back, sides and neck, Englemann spruce top, arched ebony fingerboard with
cloud inlays, Price ebony tailpiece, nickel plated hardware, hand-shaded sunburst, hand-rubbed lacquer finish,
multiple binding on body and purfled binding on peghead, f-holes, ebony bridge and a handmade
mother of pearl truss rod cover and a custom pickguard which does not obstruct the f-hole. The bracing system
is one I first used in a couple of mandolins. It's an inverted vee that meets under the pickup, with the braces passing directly under the
bridge feet for most efficient sound transfer and quick response.
I also have other top woods, including Sitka spruce and Adirondack red spruce. Price includes TKL Professional
hard case.
The pickguard is actually a platform to carry the electronic controls, which are so subtle and unobtrusive it's not immediately obvious that this is
an electrified instrument. The tone and volume pots are thumbwheel style, with about an eighth on an inch of wheel exposed. Very tidy
appearance and there's nothing to snag your cuffs on......an endpin jack doubles as a support for the Sacconi nylon tailgut.
The fingerboard is arched to a 12 inch radius, and the scale length a full 34 inches. This is really an awesome instrument to experience.
