Classic F-5 Mandolin Tailpiece
Machined from a bronze extrusion, the Classic F-5 is the strongest and finest tailpiece made. Finished to a mirror polish and plated in nickel or gold, it can fairly be described as "jewelry for the mandolin".
The end profile, screw pattern and end pin holes are a perfect match for prewar Gibsons and good quality copies. String spacing at the front is the
same as the string notch spacing in a standard bridge saddle. Strings attach to hooks under the leading edge, so there is nothing on top to snag your
arm or sleeve, and it's much easier to keep clean. There is, of course, no cover to lose, rattle or cut you when you try to take it off. It weighs only 2/10 ounce more than a stamped tailpiece with cover, but
will not break in ordinary use. Ordering and price information and an engraved version.
SL-5 Banjo Tailpiece
Designed in December 1981, the SL-5 has taken its place as the finest banjo tailpiece made. Banjo setup guru Bill Palmer has some
interesting comments on the SL-5. The string spacing across the front is the same as the string notch spacing in the standard bridge saddle, resulting in greatly improved stability, tunability and open response. Janet Davis says "You get more sound out for less work put in". Bill Keith and Lynn Morris are only a couple of the many skilled professionals who swear by the SL-5. They are standard equipment on the Nechville HeliMount banjo. Every batch has been a little better than the last, string relief being the last refinement added in 1996.
