"PREWAR GRANADA SURVIVES 8 FOOT FALL IN PRICE CASE!!"

That could have been the headline in a Charleston newspaper....here's the story of what could have been disaster....

Charleston surgeon Dr. Rudolph Rustin was returning to Charleston via Hartsfield Int'l in Atlanta, had boarded his flight and was looking out the window when the baggage cart arrived. At the top of the load lay a prewar Granada in a Price fiberglass case. The baggage handler began pulling suitcases off the side of the load, and it occurred to the doctor that if enough low baggage were pulled out, the banjo would fall. Sure enough, the banjo in its case finally took a dive.

Dr. R watched in horror as his worst fears were realized, the banjo fell 8 feet or so straight down, hit the concrete apron nose first, and bounced head-high before coming to rest on the concrete. Knowing his precious prewar Mastertone banjo was destroyed before his very eyes made a long and gloomy flight back to Charleston. He rushed to the baggage claim and anxiously waited for his banjo to be disgorged from the baggage system. When he finally got it in his anxious hands, he found to his amazement that the case appeared none the worse for wear.....and on opening the case, he tuned the banjo up and could find no change or damage whatever to the banjo.
