Tradition F-5 Mandolin Tailpiece
Machined from bronze extrusions, the F-5 Tradition is the finest tailpiece available. It retains the classic look of the Gibson stamped tailpiece in use since the early 1910's, but is precision machined for permanence and smooth function.

The end profile, screw pattern and end pin holes are a perfect match for prewar Gibsons and good quality copies.

Strings attach to hooks on top of the body, close to the back edge, and the cover locks in place on interrupted rails that permit the use of a felt pad under the leading edge.

It weighs 2/10 ounce less than the one-piece Price Classic machined tailpiece, and not much more than a stamped model.

The strings lie on top of a strip of felt on the leading edge crossbar. The cover is placed about 1/4 inch behind its final closed position, so that the notches in one set of rails engage the tabs in the other. Pressure is applied downward on the front of the cover so that the seam is closed on the sides, then the cover is slid forward until it clicks in place. The pressure of the strings upward against the felt under the front edge of the cover is enough to keep the cover securely in place.
To remove the cover, press down on the tailpiece cover and slide toward the endpin until you find a pair of relief cuts so that the cover will come off.

Finish options are bright nickel, $115; bright gold, $125; satin with bright cut engraving and vintage gold plating, $150; all prices are postpaid and include three mounting screws in the appropriate finish. On the engraved and gold plated engraved version, customer's name or one of several maker's logos is included in the price. Custom designs or logos not yet offered are available subject to a computer drawing charge, usually about $30-50. For professional luthiers, the drawing charge is waived on orders of 6 or more tailpieces, and a luthier's discount available.
